SEOUL FASHION WEEK FW20 CANCELED AS CORONAVIRUS CASES RISE
Seoul Fashion Week’s FW2020 season has been canceled as worries over the novel coronavirus spread rapidly escalate within South Korea. The official news follows a series of events being canceled around the event, with various designers both domestic and international pulling out. The shows were scheduled for March 17 to 21. As reported by The Korea Herald, a Seoul Metropolitan Government official in charge of the biannual fashion week noted that “we have internally decided to cancel the 2020 fall-winter Seoul Fashion Week and will notify the concerned parties of the decision in a few days. “However, we will seek ways to support and help designers in Korea by hosting other international design fairs instead.” The spokesperson also noted that the SS2021 Seoul Fashion Week show would still be held in October as scheduled. Thirty-six designers were slated to showcase during the main Seoul Collection shows, according to Seoul Metropolitan Government. South Korea currently has the second largest number of novel coronavirus cases behind China, jumping from a few dozen to more than 800 cases within a week.
